PEFC Spain
History before PEFC
The most representative associations in the Spanish forest sector agreed to join the PEFC initiative in representation of Spain in November 1998, and in May 1999 they formed the “Association for Spanish Forest Certification” (CEF, later to be named PEFC - España). At the PEFC constitution ceremony held in Paris in June 1999, the Association was recognized as the PEFC national member for Spain.
PEFC Spain is currently made up of all those with interests in sustainable forest management, as well as owners and managers of public and private forestlands and state or sectorial association of forest producers, industrialists, traders, consumers, professional colleges and NGOs. Its main objective is the promotion of sustainable management on Spanish forestlands through the implementation of PEFC Forest Certification in Spain.
What are the benefits of being part of the PEFC alliance?
PEFC allows us to participate actively in the development of a global project to value forests, their products and the people who work in them. Sharing experiences and knowledge provides us with new ideas and approaches to develop sustainable forest management and certification in our country.
Besides, PEFC gives our national certification scheme credibility and the guarantees of compliance with international agreements and intergovernmental processes as well globally accepted ISO Guidelines for certification and accreditation. It allows the access of Spanish forest-based products to international markets, creating new opportunities of business to pioneer and innovative companies.
