We are present at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit, highlighting the enormous potential of responsibly sourced forest fibres for a more sustainable fashion industry.
The Summit is under the patronage of HRH the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who visited our stand on Thursday morning to discuss the role of sustainably managed forests in the sustainable value chains of fashion and retail.
Patron since the first Fashion Summit in 2009, the Princess demonstrates continued support for promoting a sustainable and responsible fashion and textile industry.
Ten years of sustainable fashion
Under the theme “10 years of rewriting fashion”, the Summit celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
In 2009, the first Copenhagen Fashion Summit sparked the sustainability movement in the fashion industry and stimulated discussions on the most critical environmental, social and ethical issues facing the fashion industry.
Ten years later, responsible innovation has become the most important topic in the industry.
“Sustainability has finally found its way onto the agendas of CEOs. Not only that, more and more companies are beginning to integrate it into their business models,” said Eva Kruse, CEO of Global Fashion Agenda, the organisation behind the Copenhagen Fashion Summit.
Forests can play a key role in responsible innovation. If sourced responsibly from forests managed in line with strict environmental, social and economic requirements, wood-based fibres can provide sustainable materials that are renewable on a large scale.
Forests for Fashion initiative
For our Forests for Fashion Initiative, we teamed up with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The initiative links forest-based materials from sustainably managed forests with the world of fashion, contributing to the fashion industry’s objective to become more sustainable.
