8 September 2021 Forests in photos
This September, let’s take a closer look at ‘In the Mountains’, one of the top 12 photos from our 2020 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest.
The photographer Attila Palhegyi tells us how his photo came about and why forests and forest products are so important.
How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?
I feel pureness, clarity and life when I walk in the forest. I love to take photographs of wild animals, like stags and bears. Here in Romania we have a huge population of brown bears because of the many forests we still have. I am not afraid of getting “dirt” on my clothes, because it's just the nature that surrounds us.
How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?
For me it was a unique feeling to see sheep in the pine forest, near a huge waterfall. It was not an easy path, but the sheep managed very well.
What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?
I think it is very important to manage our forests well because we need wood to make furniture, for building our homes etc. It is a very good thing that we can buy certified products from sustainably managed forests.
