Luigi Bovolenta, respected auditor of Control Union Italia, leaves an indelible footprint in the sustainable forest management sector.

With more than two decades of experience, Luigi worked tirelessly to promote the forest sustainability of PEFC and FSC standards, even bringing his contributions to crucial areas such as the Congo Basin, an area where he contracted the deadly cerebral malaria.

Since 2003, he has worked with the PEFC Secretariat to develop the sustainable forest management standard and was the first auditor (with SGS at the time) to PEFC certify a cork forest in Sardinia in 2008. Being a pioneer was a source of pride for him and he had enthusiasm and professionalism as tools for success.

Just in a recent interview with PEFC Italy, he had enthusiastically shared the progress made and future prospects for PAFC/PEFC certification in this region, where he was once again a pioneer on behalf of Control Union, for which he was the scheme manager in Italy.

His words had highlighted his deep dedication to sustainability and awareness of the value of forests to our planet.

His commitment, expertise and passion for environmental protection, not to mention his kindness, courtesy and helpfulness, will continue to inspire all those working for a more sustainable future. PEFC Italy joins the condolences of his family, friends and colleagues, remembering Luigi with affection.
