5 July 2021 Forests in photos
This July, we hear from Tuan Aufa Bin Tuan Othman, a runner up in our 2020 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest.
In his video, Tuan Aufa tells us more about his photo ‘Gems of the Borneo Jungle’ and shares his thoughts about the forest and why it is so important for humans and animals.
“The forest is very important to all living things,” he explains.
“It is the source of the oxygen we breathe in, the rain catchment for our water supplies and the habitat of wild animals.”
But he also warns of current challenges and threats to the forest, animals and humans.
“Deforestation is rampant and has caused many wild animals to lose their natural habitat, threatening human safety. In Malaysia, wild animals, such as tigers, elephants and bears enter human settlements, because their original habitat has vanished.”
“The forest is very inspiring to me. I spend many weekends on trekking activities in the forest, looking for objects to photograph. The experience of being in the heart of the forest is fulfilling and rewarding,” he continues.
“Let us join hands and together to care for our mother nature, so we can live balanced and good lives.”
