12 November 2020 Organisation news
Three new members elected to the PEFC International Board at the 25th PEFC General Assembly, held virtually on 11 November. Riikka Joukio elected as the new Vice Chair, and two members re-elected for another term.
We are delighted to welcome three new board members: Lena Ek, Fatimad Mohammad and Sarah Khatib.
Lena Ek is Chairman of the Board of Södra Skogsägarna (the largest forest industry in Sweden), as well as for the European Forestry Technology Platform and Mistra Geopolitics Sweden.
Lena is a former minister of Environment Sweden, and a former member of the European and Swedish Parliaments.
Fatimah Mohammad is a forester by profession, holding the post of Assistant Conservator of Forests since 1981.
She has been Vice President of Union of Forestry Employees Sarawak since 2000, and was Chair of the Asia Pacific Regional Women's Committee from 2007 to 2019.
Fatimah takes the place of Jin Sook Lee on the Board, following the sad passing of Jin Sook earlier this year.
Sarah Khatib is an engineer in international agricultural development, specialized in land planning and sustainable forest management.
As a Forestry Project Manager in France Nature Environnement (FNE), her main mission is to develop advocacy on forestry issues to the political, professional, media and public.
Riikka Joukio, a longstanding board member, was elected to Vice Chair, joining David Ford. Nurudeen Iddrisu and Peter Crook were both re-elected.
We also said goodbye to two Board members: Genevieve Chua, who has been on the board since November 2010, and Hervé Le Bouler, who’s been with us since November 2014.
