1 July 2021 Forests for Fashion
We are proud to announce that we have joined the UNFCCC Fashion for Global Climate Action initiative as a signatory to the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action.
The Fashion for Global Climate Action initiative calls on the fashion industry to acknowledge the contribution of the sector to climate change and our shared responsibility to strive towards climate neutrality for a safer planet.
Through collective action and bold leadership, we have the power to make this fast and drastic transformation. By signing the Charter, PEFC demonstrates our commitment to playing our part to ensure the fashion sector is on the path to a low-carbon future.
We express our intent to support implementation of the principles enshrined in the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action in accordance with our mandates and to work collaboratively with our peers and relevant stakeholders to develop, implement and enhance the climate action agenda in fashion.
PEFC and sustainable fashion
Natural and renewable forest fibres have a huge potential to make the fashion industry more sustainable. But the origin of these fibres is critical and must be proven. This is where PEFC and sustainable forest management comes in, protecting our forests and the people that depend on them, while providing us with the materials needed to create our clothes.
The time to increase our positive impact is now. Together we can make a difference for the future of the fashion industry, our forests, and our world. Reach out to us and let's collaborate on promoting sustainable management of the world’s forests.

Fashion for Global Climate Action
The fashion sector is striving to raise ambition to urgently and significantly increase global climate action to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.
Recognizing the critical need for cities, regions, companies, and investors from around the globe to help quickly and effectively implement the Paris Agreement and accelerate the transformative change needed to reach greenhouse gas emission neutrality in the second half of the twenty-first century, PEFC International supports the vision outlined in the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action.
Speaking at the launch event for the Framework, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, Patricia Espinosa explained that the fashion industry is in a unique position to lead change in the world. “The fashion industry is always two steps ahead when it comes to defining world culture, so I am pleased to see it now also leading the way in terms of climate action.”
