RECOFTC joins PEFC as a new international stakeholder member

As the only international non-profit organization to specialize in capacity development for community forestry and devolved forest management, RECOFTC has a unique and important place in the world of forestry. Its vision is of local communities actively managing forests in Asia and the Pacific to ensure optimal social, economic, and environmental benefits.

“RECOFTC is pleased to be a new member of PEFC,” said Dr. Tint Lwin Thaung, Executive Director of RECOFTC. “We strongly support the PEFC concept of forest smallholders developing their own certification standards to which they are able to abide by, and thus potentially resulting in fair benefits from their own endeavors.”

RECOFTC focuses its work on enhancing capacities for stronger rights, improved governance and fairer benefits for local people in sustainable forested landscapes in the region. Vital to this mission is the organization, provision, facilitation and support of training for the promotion of community forestry.

With RECOFTC becoming the fourth new International Stakeholder member this year, alongside International Paper, Purinusa Ekapersada and Suzano Pulp and Paper, PEFC now counts 22 International Stakeholder members, as well as 38 national members.
