The curious glance of a squirrel convinced the jury of their winner for PEFC Slovakia’s ‘Discover the forest, discover PEFC’ photo contest.

Martin Šebesta was in the right place at the right time when he took the winning image on Mount Ježová, northwest of Detva, Slovakia.

“The mild, blurred backlight that is reflected in the squirrel’s eyes creates a magical atmosphere. The photo is amazing and deserves this first place," said prof. Vladimír Čaboun from the National Forestry Center of Slovakia.

Last rest

For first place, Mr. Šebesta wins a stay in a chalet in the holiday resort pod Jaseňom in Oravská Lesná, Slovakia.

The runners up

Second place went to Tomáš Kocún for his photo ‘Posledný odpočinok’ (Last rest), of a tree "sleeping" in his homeland of the High Tatra Mountains in northern Slovakia.

Dávid Greňa won third prize for his photo ‘Krásy Pienin’ (The Beauty of Pieniny), taken in the Pieniny Mountains in northern Slovakia.

“In the Pieniny Mountains, one can find the most beautiful autumn colours and no nature lover should miss them,” commented the photographer.

Mr. Kocún receives a weekend stay for four persons in the chalet LESY Donovaly, in Staré Hory, Slovakia, and Mr. Greňa recieves a voucher for 150€ at GRUBE.
