The forest is a place to recharge my batteries
2 May 2023 Forests in photos
This May our image in the spotlight is ‘Green Green Green’ by Sanne Rosenmay. The photo was a winner of PEFC Denmark’s 2022 photo contest and a finalist in the International contest. In our interview the photographer shared how her photo came about and how the forest makes her happy – in good and in bad times.
How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?
Nature in general is of great importance to me. And I am lucky to live right next to a wonderful forest in Denmark. The forest, to me, is a place to recharge my batteries. As soon as I step into it, I am surrounded by the colours, the smells, the sounds, and it just gives me so much.
A while ago I suddenly realized that the feeling I get when I’m in the forest must be like the one that runners get – runner’s high. I just call mine nature’s high.
How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?
This spring, I had a hard time after wrist surgery and trouble at my job, so I was quite low on energy. When the leaves started turning green, and the forest transformed into the greenest thing I’d ever seen, I went out there. I found a particularly nice spot and just stood there for a while, with my head tilted up towards the sky and the crowns of the trees. It was a wonderful and very green moment.
What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?
I love that someone is taking responsibility. It gives me hope. I cannot imagine how the world would be without our wonderful nature.
