3 March 2020 Forests in photos
This March, Nejc Mrežar, a runner up in our 2019 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest, tells us more about his photo ‘Last Rays’.
Taken in a wonderful forest glade in Slovenia, the photo shows trees bathed in sunlight – a very special view for the photographer.
How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?
Forests cover almost 60% of Slovenia, so we got used to living in harmony with them. I spend a lot of time in the forest. I like to take walks and often go there to take pictures. For me, a forest is a place where I can relax and recharge from the stress of work.
How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?
The place on my photo is on my daily walking route. I passed it and looked at it many times, and I already had the photo in my mind before I took it. After some months, I decided to take my camera with me to catch the last sun rays. And now the photo is in front of you.
What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?
Hopefully more people will see PEFC’s objective and start following it before it's too late. We don’t realise what we have until it is gone.
