Winning photos show the magic of Indonesia’s forests

We are delighted to present the impressive winning images of Indonesia’s 2020 Photo Contest with the theme "Forest Through Lens with IFCC".

The Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC), our national member for Indonesia, invited photographers to share their best forest photos and received an incredible 1,517 images. The winning photos show the beauty and magic of forests and landscapes in the country.

The winning images

First place went to Ismail Abd. Muttalib for his photo ‘Pesona Mangrove Walakiri’ (‘The Enchanting Walakiri Mangrove’).

The photographer captured the beauty of the mangrove trees growing at Walakiri beach in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

“The mangrove trees that grow on this beach are unique because the branches that are not straight tend to twist. It looks as if the tree was dancing,” he explains.

“These dancing trees can be seen when the sea water is receding.”

Sofyan Efendi came in second with the photo ‘Keindahan Hutan Tropis Waerebo’ (‘The Beauty of the Waerebo Tropical Forest’), taken in Waerebo, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

“Waerebo is a small village located about 1,100 metres above sea level. The air is really cold there and the village is surrounded by beautiful mountains and dense forests,” says Mr. Efendi.

“This tropical forest is rich in vegetation. You can find orchids and ferns and hear the chirping of many kinds of birds."

Third place went to Ady Agustian for the photo ‘Air Terjun Kedung Kayang’ (‘Kedung Kayang Waterfall’), taken in Mount Merapi National Park in Central Java, Indonesia.

“The beauty of Kedung Kayang waterfall can be enjoyed both from the top of the waterfall and from under the waterfall,” he explains.

In total, IFCC chose five national photo contest winners. Fourth place went to Keril Chairil for the photo ‘Kegiatan Pagi Hari’ (‘Morning Activities’), taken in Mount Gede Pangrango National Park, West Java, Indonesia.

Giri Wijayanto took fifth place with the photo ‘Bakau Menari Walakiri’ (‘Dancing Mangrove in Walakiri’), taken at Walakiri beach, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
