In the heart of Italy, two inspired designers have created a shoe made entirely from organic, forest-based materials!
These custom-made shoes, crafted in the Alceste Shoes workshop in Perugia, were designed by Filippo Bocci and Leonardo Pierini.
The upper shoe and laces are made from lyocell (from Eucalyptus fibre), while the outsole is made from natural rubber.
We took these fantastic shoes, along with a selection of other forest-based garments and fashion pieces, with us to the Copenhagen Fashion Summit.
This is not the first shoe from the forest designed by Filippo and Leonardo. In 2017, both wood veneer and leather shoes and cork shoes were on display at PEFC Italy’s ‘Forests for Fashion’ fashion show in Perugia.
Alceste Shoes
Alceste Shoes is a shoe retailer based in Perugia. Created in 1979, they have grown to specialize in high quality, classic and stylish lines, made mainly by small Italian shoemakers.
In 2014, Alceste Shoes began to search for artisans to offer a new custom-made shoe service, creating the 10punto10 brand. The results: unique artwork made by true artisans.
Alceste Shoes is also a place for originality, with many articles made from cork and wood, such as shoes, hats, bags, wallets, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, fashion accessories, ties, umbrellas, belts and travel items.
Alceste Shoes will soon be able to demonstrate their commitment to our forests through PEFC Chain of Custody certification.
Forests for Fashion Initiative
These shoes are part of our Forests for Fashion initiative, in partnership with the UNECE and FAO. This initiative aims to ensure that the forest-based materials used to make our clothes originate from sustainably managed forests, and that we produce them in a sustainable and ethical manner.
Together, we are linking forest-based materials from sustainably managed forests with the world of fashion. Bringing these fantastic, innovative and sustainable materials to a wider audience.
