30 October 2019 Forests in photos
As autumn arrives in Geneva and the leaves are turning yellow, we learn more about Dominik Belica’s photo ‘When the forest is in colour’. A runner up in our 2018 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest, Dominik tells us more about his photo, and why it is so important that we care for our forests.
How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?
Forests are very important for everybody's life, but not everybody knows it. It’s very important to protect our forests and to teach people how we can manage them in a good way. In some parts of our country, forests are in a very bad condition. I think that we are responsible for improving the condition of our forests.
How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?
I took my photo in the ‘White Carpathians’, a mountain range in Slovakia. I was there with a friend during the fallow deer rut, when suddenly this beautiful, big deer appeared in front of us. It was a really nice day with more amazing photos of these wild animals.
I go to the forest very often. I try to take photos of natural life in the forest, without human intervention. The forest has always inspired me. Whatever it shows me – I take a photo of it.
What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?
These organizations are very important for the protection of our forests. I hope that the conditions of forests will become better and better with the help of PEFC.
