5 October 2021 Forests in photos
This month we hear from Agnieszka Glowala, a runner up in our 2020 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest. Agnieszka tells us more about her photo ‘Foleys Bridge’, taken in Northern Ireland, and why forests are so important for all of us.
How do you feel about forests, both professionally and personally?
I grew up in the North East of Poland, a part of the country with many forests. I have always felt inspired by the forest and love to spend my time walking and horseback riding around our woodlands. Forests are so important, we should take much better care of them.
Many animals call the forest their home and depend on it. For us humans, forests play a key role in the production of oxygen and the reduction of our carbon footprint.
How did the forest inspire you to take your winning photo?
For the last 13 years I have lived in Ireland, where I fell in love with photography.
I love to spend my time walking in the woodlands and exploring nature’s hidden gems. I have visited this park on many occasions and always wanted to photograph that stunning bridge in the beautiful autumn colours.
What do you think about the work that an organization such as PEFC does to care for forests?
We need more organisations that protect and look after our trees. Together with coral reefs and phytoplankton, trees support us with oxygen and clear our air from CO2. So I feel PEFC’s work is very important. We have to look after our forests to ensure a healthy future for us and nature.
