Hundreds shared their forest moments in PEFC Finland’s photo contest

PEFC Finland’s ‘Liiku luonnossa’ (‘Move in nature’) photo contest has brought hundreds of people into the forests to capture their nature moments.

The jury chose the three winners out of more than 500 photos entered into the Finnish contest.

The winner

Tiia Leppämäki won first prize for her photo ‘Sinivuokkojen hetki’ (The moment of the liverleaves), taken in Valkeakoski in southern Finland.

“I saw these first cold-night survivors along the forest path in April and immortalized them with my camera,” she said.

“For me, moving in nature is important all year round. It is refreshing and at the same time relaxing. Going through the Finnish forests offers great experiences and interesting details – they just have to be spotted.”

The runners up

Emma Majalahti captured her first encounter with an owl in her photo ‘Ensikohtaaminen’ (First encounter).

“My first encounter with the owl was when I sat on my terrace and suddenly it came to the yard to observe the field. I was very lucky that I still had time to get my camera and take this photo,” she remembers.

“I have loved nature since I was a child, and recently I discovered birdwatching as a new hobby. You can never go to the forest without binoculars, because you never know what will be there.”

Toni Huusko's photo ‘Lapin taikaa’ (The magic of Lapland) shows the Lapland fells in northern Finland.

“It was my long-lasting dream to take a picture from the top of Ylläs mountain. The scenery was breath-taking,” he said.

“The forest is one of my favourite photography destinations and I can forget the stress of everyday life there.”

PEFC Finland's contest was one of 13 national photo contests run by PEFC members.

Besides winning a fantastic national prize, the best photos from the national contests will enter the international contest. The overall winner will be announced in November and will receive a trip to the 2019 PEFC Forest Certification Week in Germany or 2000 CHF.

The top 12 photos will be featured in the 2020 PEFC photo calendar, and exhibited at PEFC Forest Certification Week.
