Spain’s winning photos impress with wonderful landscapes
5 July 2019 Forests in photos
The 2019 ‘Experience Forests, Experience PEFC’ photo contest is over and the first members have chosen their winners.
PEFC Spain received more than 200 photos of forest landscapes, wildlife and people in the forest. The three winning images show the beauty and diversity of Spain’s forests.
The winning images
Francisco Javier Domínguez García won first prize with his photo ‘Camino al refugio’ (Way to the refuge), taken in Valle del Genal in Málaga, Spain.
“I am constantly searching for different, fresher and more attractive settings to take photos,” he explains. “I took my photo with a drone, which allowed me to see the beautiful autumn tapestry from a bird's eye view.”
Eneko Guerra came in second with his image ‘Abrázame’ (Hug me) taken in Belaustegi's Hayedo in northern Spain. His photo captures a beech tree submerged in a bank of fog.
"A friend told me that the weather was propitious that afternoon for a fog bank to stay in the beech forest for several hours – and he was right," explains the photographer.
"Sharing this type of experience with friends is one of the best things that photography has given me."
Manuel González Fraile won third prize with ‘Lecho de descanso’ (A bed to rest), taken in central Spain. According to the photographer, it is a "photo of a peaceful and little travelled nook of the Natural Park of La Pedriza."
The prizes
For first place, Mr. Domínguez García receives a weekend at the Rural Hotel Las Montañas del Pumar in Besullo in Asturias, Spain.
Mr. Guerra wins Iberian ham made from acorn-fed Ibérico Fuente la Virgen from sustainably managed pastures, and Mr. González Fraile a pack of PEFC-certified products.
